Hello everybody:

I thought that a few of you just might be interested in the fact that that ELCC-member Chris Curtin, Kiyoshi Hamai (the webmaster of the Golden Gate Lotus Club, the overall sponsor of next summer's West Coast Lotus Meet, WCLM) and I have been talking about the possibility that we might be able to have a full-fledged "Track Day" during next summer's WCLM.

It turns out that the SOVREN people have rented Pacific Raceway for five days next summer, including the day before the beginning of the so called 4th of July Historics (that'd be Thursday, July 4th) and one day after the Historics (that'd be Monday, July 8th) which will be the days used for set-up and tear-down of the paddock area and the various concession areas.

I've met with the SOVREN people and Chris has talked with the ProFormance Driving School people (who use Pacific Raceway) and there's a real possibility that we might be able to hold a "Track Day" on Thursday, July 4th in conjunction with the ProFormance people... this would be in addition to/outside the basic schedule of the 2013 WCLM that will begin with a "Welcoming Cocktail Party & Dinner" at the Red Lion Hotel that evening.

The ProFormance people would charge $395 each for Entry Level drivers and $280 each for Experienced Drivers with documentation.

If you think that you'd definitely be interested in taking part in this "Track Day" activity, could you please get in touch with me right away so that we can make an informed decision about this... we need to let the ProFormance people know what our decision is in less than a week.

PS: We are still planning to have a traffic cone-based autocross activity somewhere during the 2013 WCLM, probably in the middle of Friday, July 5th between our visit/tour of Paul Allen's Flying Heritage Collection up at Paine Field and that evening's dinner at the Snoqualmie Casino.

Just a reminder...

I need to hear from any of our members who are interested in the possibility that we might be able to hold a "Track Day" on Thursday, July 4th down at Pacific Raceway in conjunction with the ProFormance Racing School people... this is a possible activity outside the basic schedule of events and activities that are planned for the 2013 West Coast Lotus Meet (WCLM) and therefore, would be an additional cost.

And, because this activity would be outside the schedule of the 2013 WCLM, you wouldn't need to attend the rest of the WCLM if you didn't want to, although I hope you would because it's going to be a lot of fun!

As I mentioned in the message that appears below, I really need to hear back from people who are seriously interested in this "Track Day" activity right away because Chris Curtin and I need to get back in touch with the ProFormance people real soon to see if we can coordinate it.

I've met with the SOVREN people and Chris has talked with the ProFormance Driving School people (who use Pacific Raceway) and there's a real possibility that we might be able to hold a "Track Day" on Thursday, July 4th in conjunction with the ProFormance people... this would be in addition to/outside the basic schedule of the 2013 WCLM that will begin with a "Welcoming Cocktail Party & Dinner" at the Red Lion Hotel that evening.

The ProFormance people would charge $395 each for Entry Level drivers and $280 each for Experienced Drivers with documentation.

If you think that you'd definitely be interested in taking part in this "Track Day" activity, could you please get in touch with me right away so that we can make an informed decision about this... we need to let the ProFormance people know what our decision is in less than a week.

PS: We are still planning to have a traffic cone-based autocross activity somewhere during the 2013 WCLM, probably in the middle of Friday, July 5th between our visit/tour of Paul Allen's Flying Heritage Collection up at Paine Field and that evening's dinner at the Snoqualmie Casino.

Thanks a lot for your phone call. I really appreciated hearing back from you in response to the message I left on your "Voice Mail" the other day.

Of course, the main focus of our conversation had to do with the 2013 West Coast Lotus Meet (WCLM) that our local Evergreen Lotus Car Club (ELCC) is hosting this next summer and the possibility that your Lotus of Portland dealership might like to be involved somehow. 

At this point, we are pretty sure that there will be around 150 (or more!) Lotus enthusiasts participating in the WCLM next summer.

You might like to know that the Golden Gate Lotus Club (GGLC) inquired as to whether our club was interested in being the "Host" of next summer's event way back in June, and it took our club (and its Officers and Special Volunteers) a little while to decide if we wanted to "take this project on"... of course, I wanted to agree to do it right away!

I was glad that you've already had several conversations with Mark Velky (the President of Portland-based Club Lotus Northwest, CLNW and also a member of the ELCC) and that he'd already told you a bunch about next summer's WCLM.

I was also glad that you'd already taken a look at the website for the event... you can go to ? http://www.westcoastlotusmeet.com/?? or?? www.elcc.org/2013wclm?? and you'll get to the same website. You can also check out the event (and the various comments already made about it) by going to ? facebook ? and typing in?? 2013 West Coast Lotus Meet?? . So yeah, we're already out there in the "Social Media".

The event next summer is already scheduled in a pretty detailed way, particularly because you need to kind of plan way ahead of time for hotel accommodations and also to arrange and reserve the various venues for the different events and activities as well as the places where you want to eat... it's going to be a big group!

Thanks for saying that Tonkin and Lotus of Portland are interested in being involved as a Sponsor at some level or other. That is good news! And, as I mentioned, I hope to have the final version of the Sponsorship Package ready and available to hand and send out to people next week.

Like Mark and I have discussed, I'm hoping that your Lotus Dealership will want to be involved in a pre-WCLM event of some sort in Portland during the evening of Wednesday, July 3rd... Mark has already arranged a nice discount at the nearby Shilo Inn for people from "down south" (and there will probably be lots of them coming up from California, Arizona, Nevada, Colorado, etc.) who'd like to stop in the Portland area before their final "push" on to Seattle the next day.

Thanks also for saying that you could reach out to somebody with Lotus USA as a possible speaker for one of the dinners during the four-day event. Please keep me "in the loop" about this. As I mentioned, there really is only one spot where a speaker could fit into the schedule easily, and that would be during the "Banquet Dinner" we're going to have at LeMay - America's Car Museum in Tacoma on Saturday night, July 6th.

Thanks for the up-date info and I'm sure that Kiyoshi will add this pertinent information to the 2013 WCLM website.

Thanks a lot for your help with this. I think that having this pre-WCLM activity with you and other members of CLNW on Wednesday evening (July 3rd) will add to the enjoyment of people coming up from the south and will give them a nice break before they continue their journey north to Seattle (Bellevue) the next day.

You might like to be one of the first people to know that we (Kiyoshi Hamai, ELCC-member Chris Curtin and I) have arranged for a pre-WCLM "Track Day" activity at Pacific Raceway, starting in the early morning on Thursday, July 4th... check out the always up-dating 2013 WCLM website!

Also know that it is still my plan to meet y'all at The Ridge Motorsports Park in Shelton in the morning of Thursday, July 4th and then lead a caravan (of those who are interested) north through Kitsap Peninsula on some nice curvy roads and a ferryboat ride (will this be a fun way to arrive, or what!?!!) over to Seattle and then on to the Red Lion "Host" Hotel in Bellevue!

Next July and the WCLM seems like a long ways off right now and the anticipation is just about driving me crazy... maybe I should spend another month in Hawaii like I did a couple of years ago during the winter, just to relax. Yeah, that's a good idea!!!

Hello all,

Bad news, LOG 33 in 
Limerock is no longer occurring.

GOOD NEWS! LOG33 IS AT WATKINS GLEN! AND 
WE?RE THE HOST CLUB! 

THE DATE: August 2, 3, and 4, 2013. For those that 
do not know, LOG is the national convention of the Lotus Ltd car club, which we 
are an affiliate of.

We (Brian and Tony) are co-chairing the event. What 
does this mean for you, the respectable LOONY member?

Nothing or 
something. Seriously. We are hosting the LOG due to the short time frame until 
the next LOG and the combined experience allows us to put on a LOG quickly and 
easily. We would like to invite any LOONY to join us in helping put on the LOG. 
We will have plenty of jobs to share so please let us know if you would be 
interested in joining us. If you do not want to join in helping during the 
weekend, that?s okay. We?ll still like you! Seriously, it really is no problem 
but we do hope everyone takes the opportunity to come to a Lotus Owners 
Gathering while it is in our backyard, even if you just wish to attend and not 
join in on the help. We would like to note that because of insurance 
requirements you must be a member of Lotus Ltd to attend the LOG and when you 
register as a non-member, your fee includes a one year membership. You also must 
be a member of Lotus Ltd to help us with the event.

Tony can tell you 
that there is a very satisfying feeling in doing a good LOG and this is really 
how our club got started when we all got together to do LOG 7, at the Glen, 25 
years ago.

Details for the LOG:
Host hotel is the Radisson in Corning, 
New York. Friday reception, Saturday Banquet, and possibly Sunday Dinner will be 
held at the host hotel. We will be at the track on Saturday for the concourse. 
Yes, you heard us right. We will be right back where we were, at LOG7, doing our 
panoramic photo and concourse at the infield of the track in the same place we 
did it 25 years ago. There will also be a laps and lunch event on Sunday for 
those interested. Track day: we are pleased to announce that the Porsche Club of 
Northern New Jersey has allowed our members to join in their 3-day track event. 
The track event will be held on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. If you are 
interested in doing the track event please contact Tony for more information. 
You will have to register the very first day to get in, as their events fill up 
quickly.

Truthfully, we have most of the planning already done and we 
will need people on the ground Fri, Sat, and Sun to help us out. We will do a 
time line and everyone will have specific job to do at a specific time. Nobody 
but us will have to do that much during the weekend. In fact, Tony might even 
get to enjoy LOG now that he has Brian taking a lead role.

Some of the 
jobs that we are looking for help on:
Planning of the incoming rallys. we 
plan to have incoming rallys that will just be finding landmarks and such for 
people coming to LOG. We want to do one for each of the 4 major compass headings 
and we will award those trophies on Friday night.
People to help with the 
parking on Friday and placing of our signs along the route close to the 
hotel.
Setting up of the car wash area
Checking the incoming rally scores 
and letting us know who won.
Decorating the Reg room
Registration Room 
(both Friday and Sat morn)
Co-ordinating the tech sessions with the people 
doing them and the room assignments
Person to attend to the needs and offer 
help to whoever our speaker is
Poster ( I guess this is where I ask Frank if 
he wants to do another poster for LOG)
Setting up of the 
picture/crafts/models tables
Control of the water and setup of same at the 
concourse
Parking of cars for the concourse (Bill B and Don F have already 
volunteered for this)
Control of the door prizes. (if we have any) We believe 
Dave L has signed on for this. If you know of any potential advertisers or door 
prize donors, please let us know.
Counting of the ballots for the concourse 
(Dennis and Jane may have signed on for this but we need at least 2 
more)
Counting of the ballots for the photo/model/crafts contest
Cleanup 
of the concourse area at the Glen track
Decorating the banquet 
hall
Reading the liars and hard luck awards and awarding the 
prizes.
Return of the model/photos/crafts to LOG participants. Sat night and 
Sunday morn.
Autocross setup and all things associated with that, including 
getting the water to the event. We may have the SCCA do this for us, or we can 
do it ourselves. Arrangements have been made to have the timing and cones if we 
need them. Tentatively will be held at Ferrario Auto Team in Elmira.

We 
are sure there are things that we have missed but we wanted to get this out to 
all of you.
 
Please make your reservations at the Radisson, as they only have 170 rooms 
(we have blocked 150) and they will sell out. Mention the Lotus group to get the 
$129 rate,

We would like to apologize for us taking this on without 
talking to the rest of the LOONYs. But to be honest , if we had not jumped in, 
there would possibly not been LOG. We really have done a lot of this and since 
Tony has been involved in 3 LOGs and chaired 2 LOGS before, he really can ?phone 
in? a lot of the pre-LOG arrangements. 

If you want to help out and 
whatever you help out with incurs expenses such as fuel or whatever, you will be 
reimbursed.

This will be a great LOG and we hope you all join 
in.

email and he will put you on a special LOG email list for updates and 
directions.

Hello:

I was just looking through a few old magazines that I found in my basement the other day and came across a thing called "World News" in the May 20, 1996 issue of Autoweek and right there it said that Lotus was "down-sizing" their Lotus USA staff in Lawrenceville, Goeogia from 12 people to 6. They quoted a Lotus USA spokesperson as saying that they probably didn't need 12 people to help import and arrange the sales of just a few cars each year... they'd sold 153 cars in 1995. 

The receptionist at the office had apparently left simply because there wasn't anything to do!

Apparently at that time there were 60 four cylinder Turbo Esprits unsold at US dealerships. The article also said that Lotus USA was sending 16 of the four cylinder cars back to England, supposedly because Lotus was almost ready to export the brand new V8 powered Esprits.

Another person with Lotus USA said they plan to sell 50 of the V8 Esprits during the last half of 1996 and then (hopefully) sell 200 in 1997.

As of the date of the article, Group Lotus was still owned by the creditors of Bugatti financier Romano Artioli and it was suggested that as soon as these assets are sold, things could return to "normal", whatever that meant (means)... so that's why the ELCC has a model of a Bugatti floating around the Holiday Party as a "mystery gift".

Another interesting thing for those of you who have wondered why all of the road-going Lotus cars name's start with E, at least we know where the name for the Elise comes from... it was the name of Romano Artioli's grand daughter! 

And, there was another rumor about the Elise being imported into this country with a Rover KV6 in the engine compartment and a spokesman for Lotus USA said there were "... definitely plans to get that car over here".

There was also a brief article that mentioned that Lotus, Morgan, Caterham, Aston Martin and McLaren were getting together as a group (called the Coalition of Small Volume Automobile Manufacturers) to petition the US to see if they could get us to relax our federal regulations on some safety, emission and product liability rules to make it easier to import their cars into this country. This brief article was accompanied by a picture of the interesting looking Caterham 21... did they ever produce these cars and has anybody ever seen one?

All very interesting in hindsight.

Hey Mark:

You'll find attached a picture of a gorgeous Lotus 11 race car that I took during the Labor Day Weekend of extravaganza at Portland International Raceway in 2009 while I was down there taking part in the Portland ABFM.

I don't know how many CLNW members are interested in vintage racing (but I think it's several!), but I'm hoping that you are getting the word out to them and other members of CLNW about the 2013 WCLM during which we will be attending one day (Saturday) of the SOVREN Vintage/Historic Races at Pacific Raceway, in addition to all the other events and activities.

Another thing that you and your racer type members might be interested in, is that ELCC-member Chris Curtin, GGLC webmaster Kiyoshi Hamai and I have arranged is an actual "Track Day" activity at Pacific Raceway starting early in the morning on Thursday, July 4, 2013, in advance of the basic WCLM which starts with the "Welcoming Cocktail Party & Dinner" at the Red Lion Hotel in Bellevue early that evening.

This "Track Day" activity will be in conjunction with the ProFormance Racing School, it will be an addition to the basic WCLM and, therefore will have its own separate fee/cost.

I'm sorry if this all sounds like kind of a repeat of information that you already knew/know, but I've traded so many e-mail communications back and forth with Chris and Kiyoshi this past week, that I've kind of lost track of what I've told you... even though I received a message from Jerry Rude of Roseburg, Oregon a while ago who expressed an interest in this "Track Day" activity (I think that was when we were just kind of "feeling out" the level of interest).

??? - Sat. the 19th - Jim Clark Early Birthday Celebration at the Rose and Thistle Publichouse (I can't find a website for them) in N.E. Portland starting about 4:30pm. I will send out more details as the date gets closer.

??? - Sun. the 27th - Business Meeting at Maher's Irish Brew Pub (maherspub.com) starting at 12:30pm.?I can already think of a couple of important votes we need?to take.

??? Here is the plan for the Pre 2013 WCLM Events in Portland as I know them right now:

??? - Wed. the 3rd of July - Cocktail Party at Lotus Of Portland. Early evening start time TBD. With a guest speaker (Carl Jackson or Steve Wintermantel) filling us in on the latest from Lotus.
??????????????????????????? - Dinner at Lotus Of Portland (Pizza?) or the host hotel,?Portland / Beaverton Shilo Inn?(off of there menu). Exact start time TBD. Both locations are within a few blocks of each other.

??? - Thur. the 4th of July - CLNW will lead a caravan to The Ridge Motorsports Park to arrive about noon and?I think the plan is to drive a few parade laps?and meet Doug Jackson who will lead the caravan the rest of the way to the host hotel for that night for the official start of the 2013 WCLM. We will need to leave the Portland / Beaverton Shilo Inn about 8:00am ish (exact time TBD). I am looking for a CLNW Member to Put Together / Take Charge / Lead?our part of the caravan, if you would like to do this let me know.

??? Right now?much of this is set in jello, so if you have any recommendations / ideas let me know.

At this point do you know if Steve Wintermantel and Lotus of Portland are going to sponsor the cocktail party at their dealership? Nothing piques people's curiosity quicker than the thought of free wine, beer and pupus. And, in a Lotus dealership too... what's not to like!?!!

??? Here is the plan for the Pre 2013 WCLM Events in Portland as I know them right now:

??? - Wed. the 3rd of July - Cocktail Party at Lotus Of Portland. Early evening start time TBD. With a guest speaker (Carl Jackson or Steve Wintermantel) filling us in on the latest from Lotus.
??????????????????????????? - Dinner at Lotus Of Portland (Pizza?) or the host hotel,?Portland / Beaverton Shilo Inn?(off of there menu). Exact start time TBD. Both locations are within a few blocks of each other.

??? - Thur. the 4th of July - CLNW will lead a caravan to The Ridge Motorsports Park to arrive about noon and?I think the plan is to drive a few parade laps?and meet Doug Jackson who will lead the caravan the rest of the way to the host hotel for that night for the official start of the 2013 WCLM. We will need to leave the Portland / Beaverton Shilo Inn about 8:00am ish (exact time TBD). I am looking for a CLNW Member to Put Together / Take Charge / Lead?our part of the caravan, if you would like to do this let me know.

??? Right now?much of this is set in jello, so if you have any recommendations / ideas let me know.

    single-DIN (non-tech pack) to double DIN aftermarket tips   
Just figured I would share my experience since in most of the research it covers the tech pack cars ditching their awful Alpines for another unit. Well I think most non-tech pack owners want to ditch their POS Alpine for another unit as well...but the wiring is completely different.  I apologize ahead of time-I was under a time crunch tonight and didn't expect it to go as quickly as it did or I would've taken pictures. I am kicking myself because I know how helpful they are, but I think the below description with the photos in the other thread should really help.

After months of trying to find decent cars I can buy for inventory, another one falls in my lap. This car was originally sold through Lotus of Newport Beach, it's a local CA car that has ALWAYS been garaged and never seen rain. Comes with Lotus car cover, all service up to date, never tracked and has brand new tires. Car is equipped as follows:  *2006 Lotus Exige* * Starlight Black * Star Shield * Touring Pack * Sport Pack (standard) * 9,7XX miles * Asking $42,900      
    New Esprit is coming   
OK, I won't divulge any names, but heard yesterday from a couple of folks very close to Lotus that the Esprit is close to ready to go. Expect an announcement in the coming weeks and the car to show up in 2014. New owners could of course change their minds at any time, but apparently the car is real and in final validation production form. A lot of time and money has been spent on this project so I would be surprised that whether the current owners or a future one would waste all of the effort and not produce the car.

It?s a 2007 Lotus Exige S owned by Dr. Christopher Prusinski. While ultimately its normal duties were to serve as a steady, reliable, and fun track car, it also is still registered for street use. We left the Lotus fairly unmolested at the beginning of its life. Before the engine conversion, it normally rocked the carbon fiber aero additions, stock 2zz Toyota engine and transmission, AP Racing front brakes, and Lotus Track Pack.

    Cool Mod - Garage Door Opener Switch`   
Saw this on a few other sites.   Hated reaching around for my opener (I don't have visors to clip it to).   Simply took an existing programmed remote and added a momentary switch.  Wired the switch to the remote and installed the remote (the little red button) in the ABS 'panel' I have to the left of my wheel (on the tray) that houses a 12V charger outlet and the remote mute for my Escort 9500.  Parts needed:  - some 20g wire - some spade connectors (crimp on style) - cheap at radio shack - momentary switch - $2 at radio shack  Tools:  - Wire strippers/crimpter tool - Soldering Iron with solder - Your remote - Electrical tape  Process:  - Pry (or Prise as the Brits say) your remote apart.

Hello, new to posting here but I will tell you my quick story of what happened to my poor car...   I decided to mod my Elise and ship it to BOE Fabrication in Kansas for the work and on the way there the idiotic shipping company attached my car incorrectly through the bottom of the frame and there were small tears in the frame when the car arrived in Kansas. BOE assessed the damage and it was actually totaled out through my insurance company because the frame was compromised.     
    After my nightmare of a 2zz rebuild I finally got the Exige up & running *pics*   
I finally buttoned up my rebuild thanks to the help from many guys on this forum. It was a nightmare but Im glad I spent the time and trouble to do it, as I learned a lot! We all shared a great deal of laughs at my follies, from the alternator punching a hole in my firewall, , hooking up the battery in reverse polarity, to hooking up the coolant lines wrong and water getting into the motor (thought originally it was the headgasket, so I removed the head , then I was informed after that process my coolant lines were running to the wrong ports).
