I just called McMenamins Kennedy School to see what they have to offer. 
I've been there, and parking is generous and paved. I spoke with Beth, 
who handles their meeting rooms. They have a room that can handle 20 
people, and requires a food/beverage minimum of $300 on weekdays. They 
have a larger room that handles 40, and has a food/beverage minimum of 
$450 (weekdays).  Food is ordered from their restaurant menu, and they 
provide a single bill rather than individual ones.  They add an 
automatic 18%. Booking the room requires $150 down, which is applied to 
the Food/Beverage order. There is no other charge beyond the 
Food/beverage. Beth said their rooms have doors, and are quiet.

I wouldn't think we'd want to be paying as there are numerous occasions
when only a few members turn up to the club meeting and I suspect we'd be
liable for the full bill

Hello:

I just thought that a few of you might be interested in knowing that the Portland ABFM that was held at the Portland International Raceway last Saturday had a fairly nice turnout of Lotus cars (13 real Lotus cars plus one Super 7 clone) and, interestingly, almost that many Lotus race cars were taking part in the SOVREN-hosted Columbia River Classic vintage races that was going on Saturday, Sunday and Monday. 

You might like to know that I saw and talked with ELCC-members; Don Christopher, Bob Cross and Mark Velky (who's also the President of Club Lotus NW which is headquartered in Portland) who were spectators and also saw and talked with ELCC-members Fred McDonald and Myles Winbigler who were competing with their Lotus cars.

And, for those of you who are amused by this sort of thing, the headlights on my '76 Lotus Elite refused to stay closed/down on the way south and (of course!) during the ABFM, but obediently stayed closed/down all the way heading north... my car for the weekend, 399.9 miles door-to-door at 65-75 mph without a hick-up. How about that!?!!

Hello everybody:

I just thought that you all might like to know that I'd heard from one of the people who run the Golden Gate Lotus Club (GGLC, San Francisco area) a couple of months ago and he asked me if our club was/is interested in acting as the host of the West Coast Lotus Meet next year (2013)!?!!

As some of you already know (having attended previous events), the West Coast Lotus Meet is a fun-filled, multi-day event that normally happens in early summer and is made up of several activities, usually including: a track day event; maybe a tour of the countryside; a car show; a banquet and awards dinner; etc.

Of course, there are a bunch of things here in the Pacific Northwest that just might attract a pretty large number of people (and their Lotus cars) to make the trip here, things like: Pacific Raceways; the newly-opened Ridge Motorsports Park; the LeMay Auto Museum; Boeing's Museum of Flight; Paul
 Allen's WWII airplane collection up at Paine Field; maybe even the only retail outlet of Griot's Garage in Tacoma; etc...

What you might not realize, is that this sort of an event takes quite a bit of organization and planning and we'd need to find probably at least six or eight people in our club who'd like to be on one or more committees (venue scheduling; lodging organization; "Track Day Volunteer" Manager; etc.), so, if you are interested, I'd really like to hear from you ASAP because the GGLC people would like to kind of get started with the beginnings of some planning.

I think this could be a lot of fun! Maybe a lot of work, but definitely a lot of fun!!!

I'd like our club to do this, but obviously I'd need a lot of help to pull it off.

PS: The GGLC has said that
 they'd finance the entire event (track fees, venue rentals, insurance, etc.) if necessary, but I think, if we hosted a event like this, we ought to sponsor at least a part of it.

PPS: I may reach out to Club Lotus NW (CLNW, in Oregon) and the Lotus Car Club of British Columbia (LCCBC, up in Vancouver, Canada) to see if they'd be interested in attending and/or helping us run this event in some way.?

by the  Golden Gate Lotus club. Kyoshi Hamai was the main contact. He  
is extremely well organized and has a master spread sheet for such an  
event. Since he has done this many times the amount of work that we  
had to do was fairly easy. Setting up the Hotel, Seven Feathers  
Casino (cheap rooms ) suggesting various venues and meeting with the  
local contacts to see that all went well.

It was all quite seamless and Kyoshi is great to work with. Golden  
Gate has a  truck with all the requirements to put on track days or  
auto-cross.

I think you will find that the event is at the end of the season not  
the beginning.

As you'll see in the message that I just sent out to the ELCC Googlegroup e-mail list shown below, I'd mentioned the potentiality of CLNW and/or the Vancouver, BC, Canada LCCBC people "hosting" some sort of an event or activity in conjunction with or in advance of next year's West Coast Lotus Meet (WCLM)... and I'm hoping that you (and they) will be able to do this.

You might like to know that the Golden Gate Lotus Club representative that I've been talking with (Kiyoshi Hamai) has already suggested the idea of proposing that members from the south (California, Nevada, Colorado, etc.) and any of your members who are interested in taking part in the WCLM, caravan from Portland to Seattle. That sounds like a nice idea.

I know that next summer is a long ways away, but what do you think?

Hello everybody:

Because I have continued to have conversations with a representative of the Golden Gate Lotus Club (GGLC, think San Francisco) about our club acting as "hosts" for their multi-day 2013 West Coast Lotus Meet (... note, this is not the Lotus Owners Gathering event, it's specifically aimed at and put on by west coast Lotus car clubs!), I thought y'all might be interested to know that he and I have come up with a number of events and activities that might occur during next year's event.


We have discussed events, activities and other things that might include, in no particular order:

A "Track Day" at The Ridge Motorsports Park near Shelton. 

A "Track Day" at Pacific Raceway near Kent.

Possiblly a whole-group attendance to at least one day of the 4th of July SOVREN vintage races at Pacific Raceway... with a big showing of Lotus cars during the lunch/noon-time break track
 parade lapping..

Maybe a "Lapping Day" at the small Pacific Grand Prix race track adjacent to Pacific Raceway.

A visit and possible end-of-the-event banquet and private tour of the LeMay - America's Car Museum in Tacoma... possibly inside or outside, maybe with a casual car show out on the Big Lawn or in their parking lot.

A visit to Griot's Garage only retail outlet and possible tour of Richard Griot's private car collection in Tacoma, where we could also have a casual car show on their lawn.

Maybe a visit to Paul Allen's Flying Heritage Collection up at Paine Field near Everett.

A drive-in-the-country, possibly to the Olympic Peninsula with at least one ferry ride or maybe around Mt. Rainier.

A visit and possible casual car show on the grass at the LeMay Family Collection (of hundreds of vehicles) near Tacoma.

Maybe a huge turnout of Lotus cars on display during the Western Washington ABFM.

A
 visit to Dale Chilhuli's (sp?) art glass "hot shop" and museum in Tacoma.

And possibly the involvement of Club Lotus NW (Oregon) and the Lotus Car Club of British Columbia (Canada) as "hosts" of an event or activity in Portland and/or Vancouver (maybe something as simple as a lunch of dinner get together) while people are here for the WCLM.


Of course, we couldn't squash all of these things into a typical 3-4 day WCLM (and we probably don't really want to do all of them anyway!), but if we schedule things well, we can probably do a bunch of them.

The representative of the GGLC has told me that they will be discussing this issue at their next Board Meeting, this Friday. And, after I get feedback from them, we'll need to start firming a few things up and begin to establish at least a tentative schedule... I know next summer (probably sometime in June or July) seems a long way off right now, but venues and hotels require large
 amounts of advance reserving and scheduling!

Also... as you can imagine, I can't organize this whole thing myself. Luckily a few of you have already offered to help me (people like Alice Larson, Tim Barker, Chris Curtin, John Abbott and Alan Perry, plus I've already reached out to and have gotten some help from Trevor Cobb, John Scheidt and Scott McGill), but I still will need more people to help in the planning and coordination.



As I've said above, I just felt as though some of you might be interested in the "progress of discussion" regarding this 2013 West Coast Lotus Meet. It definitely could be a lot of fun!!!

We do have Ron Tonkin Gran Turismo here in town which is one of the largest
Lotus dealers in the US. If you don't want to take the car to the factory
authorized you can also go to AR Automotive. Eddie at AR Auto knows a ton
about these cars and has great advice on setting up your car for the track
since he holds many records at PIR.

Great - I'll sign up online. Can't wait to meet the club members. I've been
a Lotus fan since my teenage years after seeing my first +2 and am really
excited to finally enjoy one! The one I'm looking at needs mostly body
finishing, interior refurbishing and electrical work. The frame,
suspension, brakes, gearbox and engine are rebuilt and basically good to
go.
