Hello everybody:

I just thought you'd like to know that registration is open for the 2013 West Coast Lotus Meet (WCLM) which our car club is hosting this year.

As you probably already know, this year's WCLM is detailed very well in a special website that ELCC-member Alan Perry put together, just go to ? www.elcc.org/2013wclm ? or you can go to the basic WCLC website that Kiyoshi Hamain (of the Golden Gate Lotus Club) put together ? http://www.westcoastlotusmeet.com/ ? and, you can take a look at all of the information that we've put on a special facebook page. All you have to do is "key in" facebook, 2013 West Coast Lotus Meet?? and there it'll be. I'm pretty sure that you have to have a facebook page of your own to access this one.

You might like to know that people have already been calling the Red Lion Hotel in Bellevue, which we have chosen for the "Host Hotel" for this summer's WCLM, to make reservations, so, if you'd like to stay there one or more nights during this event, it might be a really good idea to give them a call at (425) 455-5240, and be sure to mention either the ELCC or the WCLM to make sure you get the nice discounted evening rate of $100 that we've arranged (just recently reduced from the original $104 that I'd arranged in November!).

You might like to know that each day during the WCLM will begin in the parking lot of the Red Lion Hotel in Bellevue. Of course, you don't have to meet there and travel with a big group to the day's first activity, but it could be a lot of fun.

If, for some reason or other you don't like the Red Lion Hotel "chain" (and the one in Bellevue is a nice, small-scale facility with a real big parking lot, car washing facilities, a good looking swimming pool and very easy access to I-405), there is a Hilton and a Sheraton on either side of it.

We are definitely planning to have a bunch of really fun activities and events during this year, but the WCLM will obviously be the biggest!

Hello everybody:

To answer a question that I've received from ELCC-members Gary Wood, Dan Morrison and a couple of others, we will probably be able to allow people who have paid for full participation in this summer's West Coast Lotus Meet to bring guests to the evening banquet and tour of LeMay - America's Car Museum (and possibly other individual events), but these people (the guests) will need to pay for the "real costs" of these events, plus possibly a small premium and, because space is limited in some of the venues, opportunities to bring guests will need to be balanced in consideration to people who will be paying for full participation... in other words, if we get enough people willing to pay for full participation to fill up or nearly fill up the venue spaces (particularly the three dinner locations), then they would take precedence over people who just wanted to attend one or two events during the West Coast Lotus Meet.

More on this later...

I hope you understand and appreciate this approach we need to take.

I hope you've read the answer/response that I sent out to the ELCC members regarding the possibility of picking & choosing events and activities during the 2013 WCLM.

At this point, I suspect that we'll be able to allow people to do this, but in the places where there is limited space (like at the Welcoming Cocktail Party & Dinner the first night, the buffet dinner at the Snoquamie Casino the second night and the banquet dinner and exclusive tour at LeMay - America's Car Museum the third night) people who have paid for full participation will need to be given preference over people who want to only attend one or two events or activities during the WCLM.

I hope you understand why we need to have a policy like this.

Of course, we'll need to charge a certain amount for individual events and activities (based upon their real costs)... more about this later.

PS: And to answer your question about possibly trailering your Lotus to the casual Lotus-only Car Show at Griot's Garage in Tacoma (or any place else during the WCLM for that matter), that'll be perfectly okay... there will be plenty of room at all of the venues during the WCLM (including at the Red Lion Hotel) for trailers!

Is there an option to add a club member guest (wife)?to one or two of the WCLM events?with out having to register them? I'm thinking my wife and or brother?would like to join me at?the LeMay dinner?event, but not necessarily all the other WCLM events. $225 for one additional dinner guest seems a bit rich.

Also, since my car is currently a project, but with hopes of having it running for WCLM, I may want to trailer it to Griots or something like that to show off the project. Do you think that would work out?

I'd be willing to schedule/route a tour for this time frame but it
would have to be Centrally based (Eugene).

Talked about this last summer with you guys, but I'm not sure if there
would be any interest in this due to location.  People would generally
have to drive and hour and a half to drive around for 6 hours!

As you probably already know, we are well on our way toward the final detail planning for the West Coast Lotus Meet that our car club is hosting this coming summer and I will soon be reaching out to you looking for volunteer helpers for various things that'll
 be happening during the four-day event.

In the meantime, I thought that I'd send out a short message to see if any of you know of any person or company you think might like to "sign on" as a partial sponsor at some level or other for this WCLM. 

FYI, I have already contacted: Park Place Ltd.; Lotus of Portland; DeLorean Motor Company of Bellevue; Lovely's Storage; Horizon Racing & Performance; Group 2 Motorsports; Brooklands British Car; RD Enterprises; Ragtops & Roadsters; Richmond Auto Clinic; Lotus

If you know of some people who might like the pr and marketing possibilities that exposure to 150-200 Lotus fanatics might provide them, please give me their names and phone numbers and I'll contact them.

??? Sorry it took me a few days to get back to you but I found out from another Club Member that there was a problem in that the Shilo Inn front desk did not have our info., so I had to get that fixed first. Everything is good to go now.

Hey Mark:

Thanks for the message and your continuing efforts regarding a pre-2013 WCLM activity in Portland... I appreciate them (both the message and the efforts).

The problems you have had with the front desk at the Shilo Inn sort of echos similar problems I've had with the front desk at and "National Reservations" for the Red Lion Hotel in Bellevue... it seems as though the right hand sometimes doesn't know what the left hand is doing. Hopefully these issues are resolved now.

PS: As far as the plans for a post-2013 WCLM activity in conjunction with the Lotus Car Club of British Columbia (LCCBC) up in Canada are concerned, I heard from Ron Solomon (their relatively new President) a little while ago and they've planned a pretty fun sounding day up there, including: lunch; a nice drive-in-the-country; a visit to a winery, and then; dinner somewhere... we'll add more detail to the 2013 WCLM website and our facebook page sometime soon.

Hello:

You'll see below an e-mail message that I received from Joan Stewart (the Co-event Organizer) about this year's Vancouver, B.C. All British Field Meet (ABFM).

As those of you who have taken part in (or simply attended) this event before already know, this ABFM is unique in that it is held in a botanical garden that provides a beautiful setting for a car show populated with a really wide range of British vehicles, some of which we simply never see down here in the "Lower Forty-Eight" because they were never imported into the USA.

Maybe it seems like this event is a long ways off right now, but really it's just a little over four months away, and it's definitely worth seeing and/or taking part in. Besides, it's a nice way to get to know some of the members of the Lotus Car Club of British Columbia a little better. And, taking in this ABFM gives you a perfectly good excuse to give your Lotus some
 exercize and to spend a weekend up in Canada!

This is just something to think about...

The documentation included a very poor copy of a Lotus 7 owner's manual. Is
there a member that has an actual manual that I can scan?

Hey Mark:

To answer your first question, I'd like CLNW to lead (whoever would like to approach the WCLM this way) to The Ridge Motorsports Park and getting there at noon still sounds good. After that, I will be more than happy to lead the rest of the way to the "Host Hotel" in Bellevue, by way of Kitsap Peninsula and a ferryboat ride. I mean, what a neat way to arrive in Seattle... especially for those from "down south"!?!! At this point The Ridge doesn't have anything scheduled that day, but that might change. It may be a very brief "introduction" to this track facility.

The people who want to take part in the "High Performance Driving Experience" at Pacific Raceway on Thursday, July 4th need to be there at 8:00 or 8:30 in the morning (for breakfast and classroom talk), so they may skip over the Portland pre-event or will need to get up at the "crack of dawn" to get to Pacific Raceway that early... they won't
 be taking a casual drive-in-the-country to get to the "Host Hotel" that evening.

Okay, maybe I mis-spoke a little bit about the CLNW Track Days on the Fridays of Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends... sorry about that!

Hello everybody:

Just figured that you'd like to know that seven ELCC members got together this past Sunday afternoon and talked about a number of things regarding our Lotus Car Club and the various activities that are coming up this year, so I thought that you might be interested in a list of the activities that we already know about, namely...


February -

This month is a little light so far, but of course we will have one of our casual "First Thursday" get togethers on February 7th, which will take place at the Market Arms in Ballard. I also hope that we'll have a "Shop Tour" at Goodman Racing in the Interbay Area this month, but it may have to be scheduled in March... more info soon.

March -

Another ELCC "First Thursday" thing this month onMarch 7th. And, I'd really like our club to have an ELCC "Spring Drive" this month... can I get a volunteer to arrange a route and lead this???

April -

Another "First Thursday" get together on April 4th. There'll be a "Test & Tune" session at The Ridge Motorsports Park (In Shelton) on Friday, April 12th and a SCCA sanctioned race on Saturday, April 13th & Sunday 14th. The fun "Tulip Rally" comes up on Saturday, April 20th... I'm hoping that we'll have a good contingent of ELCC members turn out for this (maybe stay overnight in La Conner the night before!?).? ProFormance Racing School will be at The Ridge on Monday, April 22nd (get in touch with them to sign up!). A "Test & Tune" session will occur at Pacific Raceway on Friday the 26th in advance of SOVREN's "Spring Sprints" will happen on Saturday, April 27th and Sunday, April 28th.

May -

Another fun "First Thursday" will happen on May 2nd. The NW Porsche Car Club is scheduled to be at The Ridge onFriday, May 3rd if you are interested in watching. And, the Ferrari Car Club will be at The Ridge on Wednesday, May 8th for some fun! Then, later in the month, the Vancouver All British Field Meet (ABFM) will occur up in the gorgeous Van Dusen Gardens near downtown Vancouver, BC on Saturday, May 18... I'm also hoping that we have a good turnout of ELCC members at this event, because it's a lot of fun and, besides, if we make a good showing up there, a bunch of the Lotus Car Club of British Columbia members will probably attend our Western Washington ABFM! And, maybe there's room in this month for another drive-in-the-country... volunteers?

June -

Another busy month, with a SOVREN event in Spokane on Saturday, the 1st and Sunday the 2nd. Another "First Thursday" on June 6th. A racing school called Turn 2 will be having a "Lapping Day" at The Ridge on Friday, June 7th. Turn 2 will be back at The Ridge on Friday the 14th. The NW Porsche Car Club will be having another event at The Ridge on Saturday, June 15th. ELCC-members Alan Perry & Corky Russell will be involved with the Olympus Rally on Friday the 21st and Saturday the 22nd (call them for more info if you're interested). And Turn 2 will return to The Ridge on Monday, June 24th.

July -

This will be a busy month, starting with the West Coast Lotus Meet (WCLM) that will run from a pre-WCLM activity down in Portland in the afternoon/evening ofWednesday, July 3rd, a pre-WCLM driving event during the day of Thursday, July 4th at Pacific Raceway and on to the basic WCLM that evening and runs through Sunday afternoon, July 7th, plus there's an opportunity to attend a post-WCLM event on Monday, July 8th up in British Columbia... I really hope a lot of our members will be involved in this special multi-day event. There'll be a Pre-LeMons event at The Ridge on Friday, June 19th which will continue to the LeMons 24 Hour event on the 20th & 21st. Turn 2 will return to The Ridge again for another "Lapping Day" on Monday, June 22nd.? Turn 2 again at The Ridge, July 26th. Also on Friday the 26th there will be a Cocktail Party in advance of the Western Washington ABFM which is scheduled forSaturday, July 27th. And, there'll be another SCCA Regional
 event at The Ridge on both Saturday the 27th and Sunday the 28th.

August -

At this point I don't know? much about August other than we'll of course have another of our "First Thursday" get togethers on the 1st. On Sunday, August 25th there will be casual Concours event up on San Juan Island (contact ELCC-member Chris Curtis about this!).There will be a Lotus-only track day event down at Portland International Raceway onFriday the 30th, the Portland ABFM on the 31st and the SOVREN "Columbia River Classic" that runs both Saturday (the 31st) and Sunday, September 1st.

September -

See above about September 1st. We'll have an ELCC "First Thursday" get together on the 5th. The Kirkland Concours d'Elegance will occur at LeMay - America's Car Museum on Sunday, September 8th. And SOVREN will have their "Fall Finale" Saturday the 21st and Sunday the 22nd, probably with a "Test & Tune" on Friday, the 20th. How about if we have an ELCC "Fall Drive" this month?... any volunteers??

October -

There'll be one of our ELCC "First Thursday" get togethers on October 3rd. And, the Maryhill Car Show will occur at the Maryhill Art Museum on Saturday, October 5th at the end of which they have a bbq dinner and the SOVREN Maryhill Hill Climb event will occur on Sunday the 6th... this is another unique event at which I hope we'll have a good contingent of ELCC members!

Then there's November and December... more about them later.

PS: If you are interested in other car activities and events, you can easily look them up on the various websites for the local: Alfa Romeo Car Club (they often have "Track Days" which anybody can attend); the MG Car Club (they have many driving events that we are always welcome to
 attend); the DeLorean Car Club (I mean, under the stainless steel skin, they are a similar car to the Lotus Esprit), and; any number of other automotive activities such as the weekly events at the XXX in Issaquah, the Greenwood Car Show, etc., etc., etc.

PPS: If you haven't sent in your ELCC dues renewal, this would be a good time to do and, besides, I just ordered another small batch of 2013 ELCC calendars if you are interested in ordering one!?!!

How about an autocross May 5 at the State Fairgrounds?  I'm chairing the event for the Willamette Motor Club and thought it might be fun tie it in with the Lotus Club.  Would be great to not be the only Lotus there. ; )

Jim and Mark - Greetings for 2013.?

Just wanted to drop you a line to keep in touch, and to let you know that next year I will be setting off again !!  Since I got back to Australia in August, I have been very frustrated, finding it dificult to settle down to a mundane routine in the suburbs !!  I was also missing the wilds of Alaska a lot !!   So last month I decided to do something about it, and have now just sold my Winnebago motorhome which I have had for some 6 years, and I bought a 2008 model Toyota Landcruiser Troopcarrier, with a camper conversion.  This has a big 4.5 litre V8 diesel, turbocharged and intercooled, so lots of torques !!  It is a fairly basic, agricultural model (think old Land Rover style inside !!)  but, like most Toyotas, has a good reputation for longevity, and is extremely capable off road.  Although it has a pop top with canvas sides, it should provide considerably more protection from errant moose and bears etc than the Elise and my little tent did !  And
 being basically weather tight, it will make it much more livable in cold / wet / windy conditions !!  I have a lot of small improvements to make to it, so will be busy over the next few months.

I am planning to ship the camper to Seattle (not LA this time) in February 2014, arriving in Seattle in late April.  Reason for this timing is that I will be attending the Australian Lotus National Meeting (Local LOG equivalent) in Canberra at the end of April 2013, and I cannot get to the US after that before the US winter weather closes in !   Also, I will (surprise surprise) be selling my Elise after the Nationals - Sad, but I honestly do not feel there is a lot more I can do in the Elise !!  After 15 years of ownership, I have raced it, rallied it and hill climbed it.  Driven it over Europe, across Australia, and up the Dalton Hwy, and done Laguna Seca, Pikes Peak, and the Nurburgring on the way !! And it has never failed to put a smile on my face.   Also, I intend to maybe be away for at least 2 - 3 years on my next trip, and there is no point in leaving the car sitting in a garage all that time when someone else could be enjoying it !    Plus of
 course, I need the money to help pay for the trip !!

And the trip ?  I intend to go up through Vancouver Island and the marine Hwy to Alaska, doing the roads like the Dalton and the Dempster that I couldn't really enjoy in the Elise, and then across Canada, down the east coast, back west across Texas (where I have a lot of friends after my 35 years with a company headquartered there), and then down through Mexico and central America, ship round the Darien Gap from Panama to Cartagena in Columbia, then down through Ecuador and Chile etc to Tierra del Fuego !!  After that, I may ship the car to Europe and explore a bit more !!  As you can see, it is going to be a much longer trip than last time !!

Anyway, thats the plan - time will tell whether it all comes together, but I see no reason why it shouldn't !  I realised how much I love being on the road as early as when I was in Zion National Park in Utah in March, and the rest of the trip just reinforced that feeling.  And now is the only time to do it, while the kids are grown up and establishing themselves, and before I get too old and infirm to sleep in a sleeping bag admiring the stars !!  I attach a couple of pics of the Toyota for you, and have started a new temporary blog for this year before I set off again.  I will be detailing the work I am doing to the Toyota, (as well as documenting Lotus 2013 in April of course !), and in August, when it cools down a bit, I hope to go and do a shakedown trip out to Alice Springs and Ayers Rock in the centre of Australia, so will be including that in the blog.     Plastidipped my airbag and painted the silver ring   
So, while doing some interior work on the elise, I decided the air bag looked horrible and it bothered the crap out of me.  So I decided I would try and plastidip it like a few people on here have done and paint the silver ring while I'm at it. This a review and discussion thread about aftermarket replacement seats for the Exige. :wave:  Some background: I'm about 5'7" 140 lbs, Love the look of the stock Exige seats. Unfortunately my 31-32 waist is just a tad too small for stock  seats and I tend to slide around on the leather if I don't brace myself under hard cornering. Being limited to certain seats offered for the Exige/Elise tight cockpit, I looked at Tillett racing seats, Corbeau and Reverie.

While this project build car is a Series 1 Elise, the focus of this thread is DIY composite (fiberglass/carbon fiber) bodywork creation.     Snow Lotus   
Have seen a few photo's of Lotus cars in the snow.  Let's see how many cars have seen the cold world during the winter. (my past Elise, not my current Exige).     
    Gut Sport Wing Installation   
Finished the install today. A keen eye will notice something missing :)  I love the wing, but wasn't much for the platform. We fabricated under clam mounting braces...rock steady and looks pretty sweet. Uprights were painted stripe black, and wing Saffron. Of course, there's 6 small holes in the clam, but I don't have a problem with that...they're easily filled if I ever want to dismount.

Hello everybody:

I thought that I'd reach out to y'all to see if any of you had or knew somebody who had a Lotus car that you (or they) would be interested in displaying during this coming summer's West Coast Lotus Meet (WCLM)!?

Of course, we are looking for unique Lotus cars, things like: the oldest Lotus car around here; Lotus race cars with some serious local "history"; some special race track-only cars; special total restorations; really limited production cars; etc.

There will be a number of opportunities to display cars during the multi-day 2013 WCLM (and they don't need to be the same cars at each place!) such as: during the "Welcoming Cocktail Party & Dinner" at the Red Lion Hotel in Bellevue (Thursday, July 4th); at the Snoqualmie Casino (Friday, July 5th); at Pacific Raceway (Saturday, July 6th); at LeMay-America's Car Museum (Saturday, July 6th), and; at Griot's Garage (Sunday, July 7th).

These display cars can be actual running-on-the-road cars, or even cars-on-trailers if they are illegal to drive on public roads and/or if they are non-running examples... there will be room for trailers at the Red Lion Hotel, LeMay and Griot's Garage.

Donuts will be provided but you need to bring your own coffee. Weather will not be an issue as we will be inside. We will be joined by the local MG "T" Club. Of course we will learn about and get demo's on there various products but, the main topic will be the difference in care between older car paints and newer car paints. Be sure to put this on your calendar, this is going to be a Great Event!!!
