Hello members of Club Lotus NW:

It's always fun getting news about your Lotus Car Club's activities.

And, I look forward to meet several of your members at the West Coast Lotus Meet (WCLM) that is officially scheduled to begin in the late afternoon of this coming Thursday, July 4th although I know that you are all invited to a fun-sounding Pre-WCLM activity at the Lotus of Portland dealership and dinner at the Beaverton Shilo Inn on Wednesday, July 3rd.

PS: As a few of you might know, I have arranged with Mark Velky to meet a few of you (plus a few more Lotus people from states south of you) in Allyn, Washington for lunch at Leonard's at 12:30PM and then lead y'all north from there to Seattle and on to the "Host Hotel" in Bellevue, hopefully by way of a ferry ride across Puget Sound as a fun way to get to Seattle.

Hey Thanks Mark, Jim Clark was one of my all time favorite drivers. Had the pleasure of watching him live at several Gran Prix's in Europe during my stay in Germany 61-65. Have pics and 8mm film as well.

??? Last weekends WCLM had about 110 people and about 70 cars in attendance and out of that CLNW had 8 people and 6 cars. So we made up about 8% of the total, which I think was Pretty Good for our Little Club!!
??? For the Pre-WCLM Event at Lotus Of Portland we had Over 20 people and then 20 people came to dinner at the Shilo Inn!!
??? We also had at least 2 Club Members attend the Post-WCLM activities in Canada!!

I know that y'all think that all of my time has been consumed by this summer's West Coast Lotus Meet lately (and you'd be mostly right!), but there's another thing coming up pretty soon that I don't want you to forget... the Western Washington All British Field Meet (WW ABFM) which is coming up on Saturday, July 27th.

I'd really like to have a good Lotus car turnout this year... I mean it's not any particular anniversary for Lotus (at least not that I know of), but it would still be a lot of fun to have a good number of Lotus (road or race) cars on display this year. 
?
BTW, does anybody know of any particularly interesting or special Lotus car we might arrange to have in our parking/display area???
?
You might like to know that this will probably be the last time that the WW ABFM will be held at Bellevue College* because they* are planning to build a new campus building right in the middle of a few of the current?parking lots.

Right now we have only 10 cars signed up, we are allocated space based upon the number of car that we have pre-registered and then given maybe two spots for late registration. If you are thinking of going, it would be nice it you would register sooner than later.

I know that y'all think that all of my time has been consumed by this summer's West Coast Lotus Meet lately (and you'd be mostly right!), but there's another thing coming up pretty soon that I don't want you to forget... the Western Washington All British Field Meet (WW ABFM) which is coming up on Saturday, July 27th.
?
I'd really like to have a good Lotus car turnout this year... I mean it's not any particular anniversary for Lotus (at least not that I know of), but it would still be a lot of fun to have a good number of Lotus (road or race) cars on display this year. 
?
BTW, does anybody know of any particularly interesting or special Lotus car we might arrange to have in our parking/display area???
?
You might like to know that this will probably be the last time that the WW ABFM will be held at Bellevue College* because they* are planning to build a new campus building right in the middle of a few of the current?parking lots.

Other than sharing the name and some convoluted heritage, what does this Evora or my Elise have to do with the current Lotus F1 team? It isn't as if an engineer is working on a suspension arm for a new Espirit on tuesday, then the?E21 formula 1 racecar?on wednesday. Not like the good 'ol days.

Hello ELCC members and others:

I'm not sure if I've done this before (even though I've been thinking of doing it!), but I definitely need to thank all of the ELCC members who stepped forward and helped in advance of, during and even as little bit after the recent West Coast Lotus Meet... I couldn't have organized and run such a complex and fun multi-day event without a lot of help from a bunch of you.

THANK YOU ALL VERY MUCH!!!

For those of you who don't know it, Mark Velky (who not only is a member of our club, but who is also the President of Portland, Oregon-based Club Lotus NW) organized a really fun Pre-WCLM activity down in Beaverton, part of which was a "hosted" pu pus and cocktail party at Lotus of Portland and then a dinner get together at a Shilo Inn very nearby where several people from "down south" (California & Arizona) stayed the night.

Also, ELCC-member Chris Curtin organized a Pre-WCLM "Track Day" at Pacific Raceway which was lead by Don Kitch and his ProFormance Racing School Team.

The night before the WCLM officially started, several of our members and even a few of their wives (plus other people from other states who had arrived at the Red Lion Hotel in Bellevue early!) helped stuff the "Goody/Swag Bags" to have them ready for registration the next afternoon... those people were; Jeff Stair, Corky Russell, Mark Gleason, Chuck deKeyser, John Scheidt. Roger Croshaw. etc...

During the basic WCLM, a bunch of the same people plus others helped out in lots of different ways, including ELCC-member Patrick Maruska (who didn't have time to attend any of the other WCLM activities) lead a really nice "Long Drive" from the Flying Heritage Collection in Everett over the Cascade Mountains and back to the Snoqualmie Casino where ELCC-member Tim Barker (who is Vice President of "Gaming" there) had set up a really fun parking garage roof-top parking situation (with cigars, beer & brandy) in advance of all of us going inside to enjoy a great buffet dinner. Also several other ELCC-members, including Mike Maxwell helped out during the autocross at Bellevue College that day.

On Saturday (while we were at the Vintage Races at Pacific Raceways in Kent and the LeMay Car Museum in Tacoma) several of the same people helped out with parking (for the "Car Corral" at the Vintage Races and a casual Car Show at LeMay), including Alan Perry, Corky, Mark Gleason as well as ELCC-member Robert Vets (who didn't have time to attend any of the other activities!) who helped out at Pacific Raceways, and ELCC-members Scott McGill and John Scheidt who both volunteer at LeMay and were our official docents for the evening.

Toby Peterson (of DeLorean Mortor Company NW) and ELCC-member Randall Fehr (of Randall Fehr Restorations) both hosted special (optional) "Open Houses" at their respective businesses during the WCLM... and apparently they were both well attended.

ELCC-member Chris Curtin encouraged and Ron Solomon and Mike Boyle both of the Lotus Car Club of British Columbia put together a really fun Post-WCLM "Drive In The Country" which was also pretty well attended by their members as well as several WCLM participants.

So yeah... the WCLM is over now, but it was a lot of work and a lot of fun.

Hello:

I hope that a bunch of you are planning to attend the Western Washington All British Field Meet (WW ABFM) on Saturday, July 27th... which is tomorrow(!) right now.

The WW ABFM is always an interesting event which includes the display of many different kinds of British vehicles (cars, trucks, motorcycles, etc.) and I suspect that this year's event will be just as interesting as past events.

Among the cars on display will probably be about 15 Lotus cars as well as many Aston Martins, Rolls Royce cars, various models of Jaguars, Austin-Healeys, MGs, etc.

The weather man is promising a really nice sunny day, maybe not quite as warm as the past two weeks or so, but that'll be just fine with a lot of people who have endured long hot days at the event before, at the Bellevue College campus and might be looking
 forward to something a little cooler.

Apparently this is going to be the last time the WW ABFM will be held in the parking lot areas of Bellevue College because they are planning to construct a major building somewhere right in the middle of where it's been held for the past several years. Rumor
 has it that it might be moving to a King County park or to a large piece of private property in the north end of Lake Washington next year.

So, I'll see you out there sometime tomorrow!

I've often said that the cars are only an excuse to

P.S. It's looking like 2014 WCLM will be in 
California. There are a couple GGLC members seriously considering chairing and 
have already started doing some exploration in the areas of Lake Tahoe, Sonoma

so perhaps we're due.

    Anyone wear ear plugs while driving?   
My 2008 Elise SC has a sector III Larini Clubsport muffler.  I find myself using ear plugs for any drive over 15 minutes.  I find it too loud and want to protect my hearing.  Funny thing though, I turn up the radio and can hear it pretty good.   I do a lot of motorcycle riding and always wear plugs.  The Elise does have a Yamaha designed top end, doeen't it.   Anyone else have to resort to wearing ear plugs while driving their Lotus?

    Kid questions about the Evora   
Hi, I have a six year old and a nine year old, so part of the appeal for the Evora 2+2  is the prospect of having my entire family enjoy a super cool ride. So after I bought my Evora last month I paid off the remainder of my wife's BMW note.  Now that she has her free & clear title in hand she wants her own Evora. :rolleyes:  She's wanting an Aspen White one since it looks amazing with the black package.  I thought I was going to get to enjoy the Evora by myself, but apparently I was wrong.  I can't get her to leave me alone; she wants to go everywhere with me now, & I just want to drive by myself lol.

    Spoiler for Elise   
So the guys, gal (we have one) and I were oogling the Elise at work tonight with the new wheels etc. Everyone agreed it needed something else but nobody could place their finger on it. Then the chick nailed it, typical being its my wife gungodess's Elise.  A rear spoiler, black low profile. Everyone agreed.  So here is my question. What aftermarket spoilers are out there? What is the consensus on the best, best looking, most effective etc.....

Schedule Details!   
   Last weekend?s trip to Bend nailed down some details for this year?s Oregon Festival of Cars at Broken Top Resort. The site is fantastic, and we think it will be the most beautiful car show setting in the Northwest. To top it off, the Broken Top staff is ecstatic about the Festival, and they are putting tremendous effort into thinking of new tweaks that will add to the appeal of the Festival.  
Thanks to all those who have registered and those who haven't, hurry up and get registered! There is a big convention in Bend that same weekend, and it?s putting pressure on hotel accommodations. Of course, you are free to stay wherever you want, but below are the three options we have lined up.

  Mount Bachelor Village Mount Bachelor Village is right across the road from Broken Top. In addition to its normal hotel rooms, it offers 1- and 2-bedroom condos with covered carports. Saturday I was approached by a young man who said that he was in the process of purchasing a Lotus Esprit and want to know if it was worth getting. He told me it was a 1981 Turbo, of course all the buzzers and lights went off in my mind, since Lotus sold no car in the USA between 1980 and 1983. So I asked him, ?Is it a left hand drive?? He answered ?Yes.? Now my mind was really racing. I told him that he has what is known as a ROW (rest of world) car, and that it might be an Essex. (Yes I know that the Essex was only available in 1980, but also knowing the way cars were registered back then, if it were sold in 1981 in the USA, it would have been titled as a 1981). He responded, ?Why yes, it is an Essex, it has the word Essex all over.? I told him that he is about to buy one of the rarest Esprits in the USA. His name is Brian Slominski, he will be at Smarty Pants on Thursday, and attached are pictures of his car.

??? On Wed. and Thu., Jul. 3rd and 4th, Club Lotus Northwest (CLNW) had the pleasure of putting together a few activities for CLNW Members and Other Lotus Club Members who stopped in Portland, Or.?on there way to the WCLM.
??? We started off on Wed. evening with a Hosted Beverage / Appetizer / Social Hour Get Together at Lotus Of Portland attended by Over 20 people. We got to hear all the latest news about Lotus from Carl Jackson - Lotus Sales and Marketing Executive V.P. for the Western Region (I think I have that Title close to right), he also covers Canada and Mexico, who talked for about?30 minutes and Steve Wintermantel from Lotus Of Portland. I have to say it sounds like things are Looking Up for Lotus. This was followed by a Fantastic Dinner / Table Conversation at the Portland / Beaverton Shilo Inn attended by 20 people.
??? On Thu. morning, CLNW Member Dave Munroe lead a scenic 10 Car Lotus Caravan to the lunch stop at Big Bubba's Burgers in Allyn, Wa. were we met up with Doug Jackson who?assumed the lead of the Caravan and?took us the?scenic way to the Host Hotel in Bellevue for the official start of the WCLM.
