Hi all, 

First time posting!

I've been looking into the Series 2 Lotus Elise - the amazing performance, critically acclaimed to be the best drive of any legal car, surprisingly good economy and cost a fraction of most sports cars. 

My questions is, considering this I would expect to see more around. I know its probably not the most practical considering the boot space but I see Porsches around which have the same problem.

I have never seen a series 2 lotus elise in person.

   Thoughts on Evora after 10k miles in a Panamera   
I just got back from a 10,000 mile roadtrip (we actually did a little over 10,170 ish but who's counting) in a Porsche Panamera just to jump in the Evora and do a quick 200 miles up to a friends birthday weekend in Paso Robles CA. 

The roadtrip in the Panamera was inspired by some events that caused a great amount of hatred for Porsche on behalf of myself and the other 3 guys in the car, so we were really prepared to sheet all over it and tell everyone how terrible it was to be stuck in it for 2 weeks.

I just came back from a night time back road jaunt in my 09 Elise SC.  I have have only had the car a month or so but as soon as I got back from my ride I had to write this.  Sorry it is so long...

Let preface what I have to say in that I have owned over 40 cars (almost all purchased used) including my favorite; a 1300 lb. polished aluminum bodied Caterham Super Seven Roadsport with a 135hp Zetec engine, cycle fenders, and De-Dion rear dif. that would break the rear end loose in 3 gears.

I am reading Jeremy Walton's wonderful book, "Lotus Elise, The Official Story"  and struck by the work and efforts made, the slim budgets, the ingenuity and the magnificent accomplishments.

I believe it was Manager Tony Shute who indicated if they had all had more time and money the car would not have turned out so well.

As I have poked and prodded around the car, I have noticed several places where Lotus Employee names or handwriting appear on labels or etched in marker.

We are heading into Fall and so far Summer and has seen a lot of exciting action.?
?
The Bug-in returned on August 4, which always brings a big crowd of VW fans who competed in drag races and a car show, as well as there was lots of?trading?of bits and pieces at the swap meet.
?
And the SCCA ?partnered with the Great American Stock Car Series for a dual weekend of racing those sporty cars and tin tops August 23-25. There was plenty of great racing whichever way you leaned.
?
If you haven't made it to a Beaches Cruise-in and NHRA drag race Wednesday, you are really missing the boat. Beaches attracts a consistent 1,000 (that's right, a thousand) hot rods, show cars, vintage sports cars and motorcycles every week. The show in the field is matched on stage; with a new band each week, plus some great food. Oh, and then walk to the grandstands (taking care to look both ways, as there are drag cars returning to the pits after their runs) and watch some hot action on the drag strip. The Beaches Cruise-in continues through September.?
?
We are doing lots of 5k events this year as well, from the Color Run to Kiss Me Dirty, from the Neon Run to Foam Fest. Check them out at our website.

And we just wrapped up the All-British Field Meet and Columbia River Classic vintage races on Labor Day weekend. Saturday's ABFM car corral typically features 800 British cars on the grass (insert snarky "British car - oil leak - Superfund" site joke here). With the great car show paired with all the wonderful vintage racers on track, it's a wonderful way to celebrate the end of summer.
?
We are getting great crowds coming back for the Late Night Drags (notice we lack a title sponsor...call if you want to talk about it), as well as huge fields for motocross. So there is something for everyone every week.

The annual, National Dragster Challenge was completed on Wednesday, July 3rd, at the Portland International Raceway. Six racers took home a coveted Wally trophy after beating out the competition in each of their respective brackets.? Two of the racers were Jr. Dragster racers in the National Jr. Dragster League Challenge.? Cooper Chun took the Wally in the Jr. Thunder bracket, beating his cousin - Ava Glenn.? Emily Mix claimed the Jr. Lightning bracket Wally, over Brenna Taylor.? 
?In Super Pro, Richard Dietrich beat Mike Nicholson in the final, and took home the Wally and in the Pro bracket, Nick Shepherd?won the Wally in the final against John Masterman.? The Sportsman winner was track champion - Gordon Cady, Jr. who beat out Adam Tabor, adding another Wally to his collection and the Motorcycle winner was Phil Lang, who wheeled his Suzuki GSX -R in a win over many-time track champion, Mark Canty also racing a Suzuki.?

Earlier this year, my dad passed away.? He was a huge lotus enthusiast.? It has taken my sisters and I a while to sort through his estate, and have decided that the '62 Super 7 in his collection needs to find a new home.

I have listed the vehicle on Hemmings Motor News, however I am getting very little action.? So I thought I would do a little networking in the Lotus community, and see if anyone you know might be interested in this vehicle.

Does anybody have any pictures of the artwork? I have been looking to buy
car related art for my den or office or garage and would like to know where
to buy either higher quality posters or framed paintings(Lotus, Ferrari,
Lamborghini and Porsche). I recently purchased a custom cut racetrack
outline of PIR from this place

Hey Mark:

Here are a few pictures I took at Bruce Beachman's Beachman Racing shop. It's a gorgeous little shop that Bruce runs in a very personal way.

When Bruce hosted us at his shop a while ago he had asked a few of his Caterham customers to bring their cars in so that we could see them.

Among the other cars that were there at the time was a Noble, a Gumpert, one of his racing Corvettes, plus one of his seriously powerful street Corvettes.

The first picture is of the purple & gold Caterham that Bruce had at PIR and that was at the Red Lion Hotel during the first night of the WCLM.

    Corbeau LE-X Seats   
I wanted to do a write-up on these seats since there doesn't seem to be much info about them out there and I think they're a great option. These seats offer MUCH more support than the OE Probax and have more padding too. It's really tough to find a pair of supportive, reasonably priced seats that fit in this car.  They are only sold in the UK and you have to contact Corbeau US to import them. If you're interested, PM me and I'll let you know who to contact.

Just bought it....thought I'd share my new-to-me RARE car.                 Just kidding. It's a base Elise. Bought from Rob at Deitsch Werks in San Jose.     Female friend wants to drive the Exige...?   
So, one of my good friends keeps bothering me about letting her drive the Exige.  Granted, she got to drive it for a couple hours on the interstate coming back home because she went with me to pick it up and I didn't want to do 8 hours (each way) by myself.  Now it seems like she feels entitled to drive it again.   I'm not sure how to explain things to her?  I think the idea of how personal of a question it is to let someone drive your car is alien to her.

Hello, I recently, (last Sunday afternoon) got my DeLorean running for it's first time in over 13 years. We got to?talking about the "downhill" side of the project tonight at the first Thursday get together. By "downhill" I mean that I'm at the point that it is just a matter of reassembling the cleaned/refurbished original interior parts with the new ones in the interior. I wanted to share these links to a Automotive Detail Series that DRIVE has done on Youtube that has been very helpful in cleaning and refurbishing the DMC's parts, both outside and inside. If you haven't already seen them they are worth the time to check out. I absolutely hate washing cars. I haven't washed my prized E30 M3 in 3-4 years, however just trying out some of these tips was enjoyable and dare I say... a little fun? I might book a spa date with the M3 soon....

*Greetings driving enthusiasts!  Please read on for a hopefully fun
upcoming event!

*Where: Southern Willamette Valley and Siuslaw National Forest areas*

*This fall driving tour will consist of a 150 mile route during the early
Autumn, hopefully late enough for some nice fall colors, but early enough
to avoid any severe weather.*

*The route is a bit on the short side in anticipation of some participants
driving long distance to arrive at the starting point, which will be on the
south end of Eugene at Spencer Butte Park.  From here we will travel south
west through some rambling hills and valleys on the southern end of the
Willamette valley, then further south.  Turning north, we will skirt along
the Siuslaw National Forest, then head west toward Mapleton for a lunch
break.  Thereafter, we?ll head back east towards Junction City on some
mellow country roads for a nice cool down drive back to the valley.  From
here, participants can hop on Hwy 99 and disperse north or south to I5 and
home.*

*Routes will consist entirely of two lane tarmac roads.  This includes some
state highways and also some county lanes.  Although the wider two lane
state highways in this area are very nice, we will mostly avoid them as
they are frequently heavily traveled, resulting in afternoons staring at
the bike lashed to the back of a Winnebago.  Much of the route we will
follow is highly technical, variable in elevation, narrow and twisty county
lanes which will thoroughly challenge your Lotus? superb handling
capabilities and exercise your driving cravings even at normal highway
speed limits!  We?ll have a few sections of epic state highway as well for
moments to relax and lash down all the random debris, CD?s and old French
fries that worked their way loose from their hiding spots through the curvy
sections.*

*All manner of cars are welcome.  Other car clubs may join as well and it?s
likely we will get some co-attendance from the local PCA region.  Feel free
to forward the invite to any interested parties.
*

*Note also that Spencer Butte has a very nice, short (but steep) ascent to
the summit offering an excellent view of the Willamette valley and
mountains to the North and West.  One could easily arrive early and get
this hike stomped out in about 1.5 hours and then head out for the tour
immediately after.*

I had the pleasure of meeting this young man yesterday and he is based 
locally here in Sammamish. His name is Dana and his phone number is 425-2009424. 
He made me a rear bumper and it was of the highest quality, cheaply 
priced?and professionally made. He has several molds already for various 
Lotus vehicles from his father and he told me that if you have a part he will 
make a mould and make you a new one. 
From his E bay postings: 
My father Geoffrey Johnson started Tomco Engineering in 1974, making custom 
Lotus spares for Dave Bean and body shops. In the 80s he built complete molds of 
the Europa TC and Elan S4, later hiring his friend, the legendary Gerry Foley to 
make parts from these molds through the 90s. 
I gave him my old federal front and rear bumpers from my S1 Esprit so soon

* 9/2/2011 - Intermediate sessions (all day)
* 5/25/2012 - Advanced sessions 1-4
* 8/31/2012 - Advanced sessions 1-2, 4-6, intermediate session 4
* 8/31/2012 - Intermediate sessions 1-6
* 8/30/2013 - Advanced sessions 1-6

And plenty of side-of-the-track video as well. I think I might've even 
caught 'ol splotchy on camera once or twice! Anyone interested in the 
videos? Obvously someone will need to cut them down a bit, but it's a good 
bit of Lotus day archival history!

Since the fantasyland at Goodwood presents us with such good material every year, we just can?t pack it into one newsletter. To add to Tim Scott?s wonderful images featured last week, we have his photos from the Fordwater and Richmond Trophy races in addition to coverage of the Jim Clark Tribute with pictures from both Tim and Julien Mahiels. The big feature this week, though, comes not from England but from Spa, Belgium. Again, Tim Scott brings coverage of the Spa Six Hours, with an excellent selection of images from the headline 360-minute historic race.
In addition to all of the great pictures, we are also lucky enough to have another must-see video, put together by SVRA and director Ben Cissell, of the Historic Trans Am Racing at Watkins Glen this year. Moving from the race track to the auction block, Auction Editor Rick offers up his extensive report from the Gooding & Company Pebble Beach sale, and RK Motors Collector Car Auctions brings us news of an exciting entry for their upcoming Charlotte sale.
Finally, we have news from the Donington Historic Festival and an announcement from Lord March of yet another event at Goodwood, slated for March of next year.

Thanks for the message and, yeah sometimes the pictures attached below the brief text things don't appear in the body of the Sports Car Digest weekly newsletters that I "forward" to people.

Glad to hear that the whole article and pictures of the Goodwood Jim Clark Tribute pop up when you click on the title.

And, yeah there are pictures of lots and lots of Lotus (and other) cars that Jim Clark drove during his racing career... I think especially intriguing is the "door stop" wedge car that was developed to race at the Indianapolis 500. You'll see below a few pictures I took of one of these cars that was on display at LeMay-America's Car Museum until just before this summer's WCLM.

Since the fantasyland at Goodwood presents us with such good material every year, we just can?t pack it into one newsletter. To add to Tim Scott?s wonderful images featured last week, we have his photos from the Fordwater and Richmond Trophy races in addition to coverage of the Jim Clark Tribute with pictures from both Tim and Julien Mahiels. The big feature this week, though, comes not from England but from Spa, Belgium. Again, Tim Scott brings coverage of the Spa Six Hours, with an excellent selection of images from the headline 360-minute historic race.

??? Sat. the 12th - The CLNW Mid - Central Fall Tour starting between 9:30 and 10:30am (See prior and future e-mails) in the Eugene area. We have been wanting to do an Event in this part of the state for some time and CLNW Member Daniel Schwartz has volunteered to put a Great Drive together for us.
??? **** I Hope EVERYONE can attend this Drive and Support our Members to the South, just as they come up several times a year?and Support?Events to the North?for them ****
