??? I am very late getting this out, but don't worry you have not missed anything. The CLNW upcoming Events for Feb. 2014 so far are:

??? - Tue. the 4th - Membership Meeting at the Horse Brass Pub http://www.horsebrass.com/?starting about 6:30pm. This will be the only reminder.

??? - Tue. the 18th - Membership Meeting at McMenamins Kennedy School, Courtyard Restaurant http://www.mcmenamins.com/797-courtyard-restaurant-home?starting about 6:30pm. We will elect a New Club Vice President and President, so it is Important that everyone attends.

??? We are looking for a Club Member to Take Charge Of and Put Together a Club Event for Feb. . Here is another opportunity for you to Help Support Your Club. Let me know what you would like to do (See contact info. below). We have had at least One Event every month in addition to our Meetings for the last 4.5 years and I am hoping that will continue with our New President. This would be a Big Help to our New President so they do not have to figure out a Feb. Event 10 mins. after taking office.

First, I would like to Thank!!!, all the Members who came to the Business Meeting last Sun. to take part in the Cub election.
In my prior e-mail about volunteer positions, I said if I did not hear from you I would assume you were willing to continue on for another two years, so based on that plus input from Members that were at the Business Meeting it
 looks like everything will stay the same for volunteers. 
The election results are as follows:
- Secretary - Jon Lexau has agreed to continue on and was reelected.
- Treasurer - Jim McVein has agreed to continue on and was reelected.
- Vice President - I have called Mark Viskov and left a message on his answering machine to find out if he would like to continue on as Vice President and I am waiting for a answer. Also Dave Miller and Brent Ohlgren have both said they would be willing to be Vice President if needed. So it looks like we will have a lot of good choices for Vice President in Part 2 of the election ( More on this in a minute ).
Thank You Very Much to Everyone Above for your Past, Present and Future Support of CLNW!!!
- President - As of right now no one has come forward and said they would be willing to take over the job of President.
I have been letting everyone know since the Business Meeting last Oct. that I wanted to be relieved. The last of my several terms as President ended on Sun. Jan. 26th 2014 but I have agreed to continue on until the Tue. Feb. 18th 2014 Membership Meeting. Tue. Feb. 18th 2014 Will Be My Last Day as Club President.
Now getting back to Part 2 of the election. It will be held at the Membership Meeting on Tue. Feb. 18th 2014 and we will vote on Vice President and President. 
I have said before many times that I do not think we use the CLNW E-Mail Mailing List to it's full potential. This would be a great opportunity to share your thoughts on your future Club Vice President and President. It must be easy because even I can do it. Here is the address members at clnw.org .

This trip was even crazier than the last I went on up the coast of the UAE to Khasab in Oman. Why? Four times as many Lotuses, Evora Ss to pit my lowly N/A up against, and this trip had both the technical canyon carving moments and also sweeping curves that we took at shocking speeds. And in other areas we took at speeds that would have you arrested in the US.

I just bought a set of LOTUS letters for the back of my Exige, but after mounting them I realized chrome just isn't my thing. Matte black works much better for my car's color scheme. 

Unfortunately I realized that 5-minutes AFTER I put on the letters. In hindsight I should have sprayed them early, but hey live and learn! That said, here is how I went about changing their color: I dipped them!

Tools needed:
1 spray can of Plasti Dip (any color you like)
Masking tape
Masking (newspaper, plastic sheets, etc.

    Is Radar really worth it?   
As you guys know, I recently purchased a 2013 Evora and couldn't be happier but I have been feeling pressure (all self-applied) as to whether or not to get a radar/laser system installed in the car.

The issue isn't about which system but rather whether or not to do it. Living in the North East, I believe that radar by itself would be useless so if I do this, it would have to include Laser Jammers which basically rules out portable systems.

Anybody have positive experiences using full systems?  Specifically, do you really believe it has stopped you from getting ticketed?

PS - they are legal in CT, where I live

Maybe we didn't talk at Gran Tourismo but I did pick up your card there?I think? 
 
Anyway, I'm building the World of Speed Museum in Wilsonville: worldofspeed.org 
 
Attached are a couple images of the original 1960 Lotus 31 simulator we purchased last week. 
 
As soon as we have finished our 95 Lola sim we will be working on this to resurrect it as a modern-day sim but using the original body and chassis, etc. 
 
You might also want to know that Peter Stevens who designed the Elan and worked for Lotus for many years is one of my best friends. 
 
Anyway, let's stay in touch and I will let you know how the sim progresses.

If it is a former racing JPS car that hasn't moved for 20 years, I'm guessing it is the former Chuck Clemmons car. Chuck was the superintendent of the Oregon City School District, a former teacher and avid racer in Conference. There is certainly some local history (and value) with the car.

Maybe we didn't talk at Gran Tourismo but I did pick up your card there?I think?


Anyway, I'm building the World of Speed Museum in Wilsonville: worldofspeed.org


Attached are a couple images of the original 1960 Lotus 31 simulator we purchased last week.


As soon as we have finished our 95 Lola sim we will be working on this to resurrect it as a modern-day sim but using the original body and chassis, etc.


You might also want to know that Peter Stevens who designed the Elan and worked for Lotus for many years is one of my best friends.


Anyway, let's stay in touch and I will let you know how the sim progresses.

??? Just a reminder about the upcoming Membership Meeting on Tue. Feb. 18th 2014 at McMenamins Kennedy School - The Courtyard Restaurant http://www.mcmenamins.com/797-courtyard-restaurant-home?starting about 6:30pm.
?? We will also be holding?Round 2 of the Club Officer Election for Vice President and President. We have two volunteers for Vice President but so far no one has?volunteered to run for President.?WE NEED SOMEONE TO STEP UP AND VOLUNTEER TO RUN FOR PRESIDENT.?I think we have a Great Club with Fantastic Members and on average we have been getting about one new Member a month for the last 4.5 years that I have been keeping track, with a total of about 75 people that are active?on some level. There must be at least ONE Member who would be willing to be our next President. 
??? There are a lot of improvements still to be made in the Club and we need Everyone's help to make that happen!!!
??? We need Everyone to Attend this Meeting!!!

The installation is pretty easy to do yourself and a great way to get to know your car. 

It'll entirely transform the car's personality, and probably yours as well.

The days are getting longer and the phone is ringing a bit more, so racing season must be just around the corner!

The schedule is looking good and the roster of familiar events is coming together, with full seasons for drag racing, road racing, motocross, cycling and a whole bunch of new running events.

In April the PIR Auto Swap returns, which is a great place to look for a project or the bits you need to complete the project already in your garage. 1500+ booths all the way around the track brings lots of swappers every year. And we will have the third Fall Auto Swap in September. It's growing every year.

The Rose Cup returns June 13-15, and the Rose Festival has been working hard to bring some interesting new things to the track this year, plus the always good racing.

The Portland Historics moves back to the week after July 4, July 11-13. It's the year of the Datsun for the Historics.

SOVERN's Columbia River Classic and the All-British Field Meet are back for Labor Day weekend, plus there is a full slate of OMRRA, SCCA, Cascades Sports Car Club and NASA race weekends filing out the calendar.

The trend of the past couple of years of PIR being a prime venue for running events continues. We will host almost a dozen 5k fun runs this year: The Electric Run, Rugged Maniac, Kiss Me Dirty, and several more are on the calendar, including the return in September of the massive Color Run.

On TV it seems all the alcoholics always know where to find an AA meeting no matter what time of day or night. Our cars are a different kind of addiction, but I find it somewhat amusing that I managed to show up at a Lotus club meeting 1200 miles from home. Thank you for making me feel welcome. I had a good time.

I live in Denver but am employed by a Portland company, so I'm in town every now and then. I decided a while ago that I should reach out to the local lotus club and see if its possible to run laps at PIR. Long story short, I decided to join you for your track day this year. I'm still early in the planning stage, obviously, but am already excited
 about it.

The trip will be anchored around track day on 8/29. I've already lined up a three day trip on the Deschutes River. And it looks like I'll be able to squeeze in a day at Oregon Raceway Park.  I'd be happy to hear suggestions for good Lotus roads in the region that I might be able to include on the way here or the way home. And if there are any hikers on this list, I'll have a day or three for day hikes on Mt Hood or Olympic National Park (in the 8-12 mile round trip range) and suggestions are welcome.

I look forward to meeting new friends and chatting again with friends made last night.

CLNW Members, I looked into theater rentals and it's a lot of money $250 on
an off night to rent a theater space for 2.5 hours. Does anybody have a
place where we could show the movie or a projector and I can find a place to
show it? I have the movie(Rush) in Blu-Ray and DVD and I think this would be
a great even for March since February is almost over. I can't find any local
theaters playing the movie either in my searches.

Hi Travis,

I'd be happy to help secure one of Intel's auditoriums for the screening.
 Just let me know the dates/times that would be preferable and I can look
at which facility would be available.

The screens are big and the rooms are large -- think medium sized movie
theater.  Should have everything you need except the popcorn.

??? I will try to explain this as best I can and hopefully its understandable.

??? Brent Ohlgren was elected as our new Vice President (At least for a few days, more on this next).

??? No single person wanted to be President, however a recommendation was made to go with Co-Presidents (To help spread out the work load)?based on the idea brought up by Dave Miller?during Round 1 of the Elections back in Jan. . Brent then said he would be willing to be a Co-President and it was decided that I would call Dave and see if he was still interested and he said he was. So this plan will do away with the Vice President position for the next 2 years.

??? Now in the process of trying to get all the details worked out, the thing I realized I forgot to do was take a vote to make it official, however I guess I really could not have done that until Dave agreed. So in an effort to get this wrapped up so it does not carry over into a third month I thought we could try voting by e-mail for Brent and Dave as our new Co-Presidents. If I do not hear from you I will assume your vote is yes, however if your vote is no please get in touch with me at (503)525-4132 or dmc.lotus at yahoo.com directly to keep a no vote?more private by Mon. at?6:00pm as the deadline.

Will look for this issue, but I have to say the solution to rain falling on a moving Seven (or Caterham) is to drive faster. This is why a Seven seems more a kin to a motorcycle than a 4-wheeled vehicle.? I ?think? I have side curtains and maybe even a top ? somewhere.? First ELCC meeting we ever attended (in the Seven of course) was in the snow.?

Hello:

For those of you who enjoy reading about "elemental driving experiences" in "Lotus" cars (and you know who you are!), you might like to pick up the April 2014 issue of Automobile magazineand read the article about the Caterham Seven 160.

The article was written by Jamie Kitman who obviously enjoys driving and writing about the older Lotus cars, and as I'm pretty sure most of you know, the Caterham company has been producing a version of the Lotus 7 (with agreemernt from Colin Chapman & Comapany) ever since the Lotus Motor Company stopped building this car, years and years ago.

The article is a fun one, which describes the normal fun you can have in a car like this, including some time driving one in the pouring rain (with hail) with the side curtains on, but the top off!

Hello again:

As a follow-up to the e-mail message that I sent out the other day about the article about the Caterham Seven 160 that appears in the April 2014 issue of Automobile magazine, a few of you might be interested in the fact that I received an e-mail response from Bruce Beachman (of Beachman Racing, the local Caterham dealer) who told me a few things, namely:

1. He has received a few inquiries about the Caterham Seven 160 model and says that he'd be more than happy to arrange delivery and assembly of this particular Caterham model (with its modest little engine and rather spartan interior, in your choice of colors) and says that it would be about a $35,000 car when all the dust settles... what a fun, fair weather car that'd be!

2. He also mentioned that he has a brand new, white Roadsport Caterham CSR model "on order" right now if anybody is interested. It's one of the last (if not the last!) CSR model being shipped to the US. It'll be For Sale and will cost around $75,000 when all is said and done. For those of you who know what this particular Caterham model is capable of and how it's set up and finished, you might think that's a pretty reasonable price.

3. And he said he's got some exciting new news and would like us to come out for another "Shop Tour" sometime soon... more on this later.
