Friends of PIR is a non-profit service organization committed to the 
preservation and enhancement of PIR as a resource for those who use it, both 
participants and spectators alike; sustaining and expanding PIR's civic 
contribution as an institution in North Portland; providing guidance and support 
for the ongoing management of PIR in a manner that assures its ongoing value as

The days are getting longer and the phone is ringing a bit more, so racing season must be just around the corner! 
  
The schedule is looking good and the roster of familiar events is coming together, with full seasons for drag racing, road racing, motocross, cycling and a whole bunch of new running events. 
  
In April the PIR Auto Swap returns, which is a great place to look for a project or the bits you need to complete the project already in your garage. 1500+ booths all the way around the track brings lots of swappers every year. And we will have the third Fall Auto Swap in September. It's growing every year. 
  
The Rose Cup returns June 13-15, and the Rose Festival has been working hard to bring some interesting new things to the track this year, plus the always good racing. 
  
The Portland Historics moves back to the week after July 4, July 11-13. It's the year of the Datsun for the Historics. 
  
SOVERN's Columbia River Classic and the All-British Field Meet are back for Labor Day weekend, plus there is a full slate of OMRRA, SCCA, Cascades Sports Car Club and NASA race weekends filing out the calendar. 
  
The trend of the past couple of years of PIR being a prime venue for running events continues. We will host almost a dozen 5k fun runs this year: The Electric Run, Rugged Maniac, Kiss Me Dirty, and several more are on the calendar, including the return in September of the massive Color Run.

  A special shout out to the Cascade Sports Car Club for their continued support of the Friends of PIR. Cascade has donated $1 per entry to FoPIR since the inception, more than $10,000 over the years. Look for some great news about plans FoPIR is putting together for a project at the track.

The American English Oxford Dictionary defines Thunder (verb) as a resounding deep noise. GASS example:  The thunder of the American V8s in the GASS stockcars was deafening as the green flag dropped at the start of their race.    
  
The sound of a V8 on racetrack will get your attention, but driving a stockcar at speed at PIR will capture your soul. If you have ever thought about driving or racing a stockcar, now is the time to make your plans to take action and reserve your place on the GASS roster.    
  For 2014, the Portland, OR based Great American Stockcar Series (GASS) will be hosting their events exclusively at the Portland International Raceway, including the GASS Stockcar Driving Experience and the new 2-day GASS Stockcar Driving School.
