Subject: [ELCC] The 2013 West Coast Lotus Meet...

Hello everybody:

I have gotten some questions recently from a few ELCC members who have been wondering how the plans for next summer's West Coast Lotus Meet (WCLM) that our club is going to "Host", are coming along... the short answer is, REALLY GREAT!!!

You'll see below a message dated October 9th that I sent to a number of ELCC members who had already volunteered to help (as of that day) with the time and effort that it will take to "run" the 2013 WCLM ... and I want to thank them and a few other ELCC members who have volunteered since then.

As you can see, the 2013 WCLM basically runs from Thursday, July 4th thru Sunday, July 7th and the schedule of events and activities outlined in that October 9th e-mail hasn't changed much, but we may be adding a few optional "Tech Sessions" on a couple of the days for those who might not want to do so much driving while they are here.

We have already chosen and signed an Agreement with the "Host Hotel" for out-of-town participants (and/or for our members who'd like to stay "in town" rather than drive back home each night!?!!) and it's going to be the Red Lion Hotel in Bellevue, which is a real nice, smaller scale hotel with an on-site restaurant for the "Welcoming Cocktail Party & Dinner", lots of parking and very easy access to I-405, I-90 and I-5 for heading north, south, east and west.

Of course, we've already made arrangements with: the Flying Heritage Collection; the Snoqualmie Casino (thanks to ELCC-member Tim Barker); the SOVREN Historics (with help from SOVREN Vice President Jim Johnson and others); the LeMay Car Museum (with help from ELCC-members John Scheidt and Scott McGill); Griot's Garage; etc., but of course there are still quite a few details to work out... but we have lots of time.

Alan Perry is already working with our contact with the Golden Gate Lotus Club to set up a unique website for next summer's WCLM for information and registration... this should be "up & running" pretty soon.

Lotus car owners & drivers (and probably a few of their friends and significant others) from; British Columbia, Oregon, California, Nevada, Arizona, Colorado and maybe a few other places will probably be coming to this four-day event.

Okay... I hope this hasn't been too much information, but I thought a few of you just might like to be brought "up to date" regarding next summer's WCLM. It's probably going to be a lot of effort to put it on, but I'm pretty sure it's going to be worth it and a lot of fun too!!!

Hello:

First of all, I'd like to say Thank You! to all of you who I am sending this message to, because you all volunteered to help (at least a little bit!) organize/run and/or manage at least part of next year's West Coast Lotus Meet (WCLM) which the ELCC has volunteered to host.

And, okay, I know that this is going to sound like talking about something that is a really long ways off, but as most of you probably realize that something like a WCLM, that can attract 75-250 people (and probably about 3/4 that many cars), needs to be planned and scheduled out in a certain amount of detail way before it happens.

So, I thought that at least a few (if not all) of you would like to receive an up-date that sort of explains what my contact with the Golden Gate Lotus Club (the guy who asked us to host the event) and I have been talking about and doing lately and/or at least take a look at the tentative/preliminary Schedule of Events for the 2013 WCLM, so here goes...

The official 2013 WCLM is scheduled to run from Thursday, July 4th until Sunday, July 7th, but will have at least a partial optional day at either end, and currently it looks like this...

Option Number One, Wednesday, July 3, 2013 - Participants coming up from "down south" (California, Arizona, Nevada, etc.) have the option of stopping for the night in Portland, Oregon and enjoy a pre-WCLM dinner with members of Club Lotus NW (CLNW).

Thursday, July 4th - This will be the last day of travel (getting here) for participants who come from afar and I have asked Mark Velky and other members of CLNW to caravan up north with other participants from further south... during this last day of travel from "down south", participants will swing by The Ridge Motorsports Park (and hopefully get to do a few "Parade Laps") and then continue north by way of curvy country roads and probably a ferryboat ride to get to the Seattle/Bellevue area. There will be a "Welcoming Dinner" at the "Host Motel" (not chosen yet!) during which the registration packets will be passed out to last minute registerees.

Friday, July 5th - This day will include meeting at the "Host Motel", a drive-in-the-country, a visit to Paul Allen's Flying Heritage Collection up at Paine Field along with a catered box lunch, hopefully a traffic cone-based autocross and dinner at the Snoqualmie Casino.

Saturday, July 6th - This will be another busy day starting at the "Host Motel", then we'll drive down to Pacific Raceway in Kent to attend one of the days of the SOVREN Vintage/Historic Races where we'll get to do a few "Parade Laps" and probably be featured as the Marque of the Day. We'll have another catered box lunch while there and then, depending on how long you stay at Pacific Raceway, you'll have (or you might not have) a break between this activity and a private tour of LeMay - America's Car Museum in Tacoma where we'll have the WCLM dinner and awards ceremony.

Sunday, July 7th - We'll again meet at the "Host Motel" where we'll take off on another very pleasant drive-in-the-country (possibly around Mt. Rainier) to end up at Griot's Garage in Tacoma where we'll have a casual Lotus Car Show on their big lawn, have a lunch bbq and hopefully we'll get a tour of Richard Griot's interesting car collection. Depending upon schedules and time constraints, we might also get a tour of the (very nearby) Dale Chihuly glass "Hot Shop" and museum... these things will bethe  last events and activities of the official 2013 WCLM.

Option Number Two, Monday, July 8th - For those who have the time and/or the inclination, I've had conversations with the Lotus Car Club of British Columbia for them to "host" a lunch and possibly a drive of some sort in or near Vancouver, BC this day.

Mark your 2013 calendar (if you have one).

So there you have it... there are still lots of details to work out and I'm definitely going to be needing lots of help to pull this WCLM off so you can be sure that I'll be contacting you about it during the next several months.

Any comments or questions, just let me know.
